A UNESCO World Heritage Site is a that is an original extraordinary work of universal value unique by its architecture, construction technology, having city or landscape character representing faith, cultural tradition or the concurrence of man and nature.
The list of UNESCO Cultural and Natural Heritage sites has 878 entries, of which 679 are cultural, 174 are natural and 25 are mixed localities in 145 countries around the world.
There are seven sites listed in the UNESCO Wolrd Heritage list in Slovakia and the four of them are locvated in the territory of Prešov region:
- Historical Center of Bardejov,
- Wooden Churches of the Slovak part of the Carpathian Mountain area,
- Carpathian Beech Primeval Forests,
- Spiš Chapter.
